Foundations

Selection of the most appropriate foundation system is critical to the constructability, life expectancy, maintenance, and life cycle cost of any structure. Our staff of 85 engineers, geologists, and hydrogeologists, many with advanced degrees in their disciplines, is skilled in evaluating foundation alternatives in complex ground conditions. We understand that balancing least cost and performance is key to the success of projects involving infrastructure, dams, levees, and building construction and rehabilitation.

Our Expertise

What We Do
We analyze, design, and inspect foundation systems ranging from simple spread footings to a wide variety of deep foundations and ground modification techniques.

What You Can Expect

  • Expert Analysis and Design
We use the latest applications – PLAXIS, GROUP, FB-Pier, LPILE, SHAFT, FoSSA, SLOPE/W, SEEP/W, SIGMA/W, GRLWEAP, CivilTech Shoring Suite, and DeepXcav – in the analysis and design of deep and shallow foundations.
  • Innovative Ground Modifications
Foundations frequently require innovative ground modifications to accommodate variations in subsurface conditions. A recent project used the installation of wick drains along with preloading to accelerate consolidation of 40 feet of compressible material underlying new highway embankments. • Geotechnical Testing
With a fully-equipped geotechnical testing laboratory and on-site testing, we combine real-time data with the results of empirical relations and experience to determine appropriate soil parameters. Read more about Geotechnical Testing
