Water Resources

Climate change, environmental regulations, aging infrastructure, declining federal investment, and public demand present critical challenges to managing our nation’s water resources.  Since our founding in 1915, we’ve helped federal agencies protect communities and water resources through projects for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), the Department of the Interior, the Natural Resource Conservation Service, and FEMA.

Our Experience

We have planned, designed, and provided construction management for hundreds of water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations and thousands of miles of sewer systems. Providing engineering for dams from concept through construction and startup, we help our clients satisfy state and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations.

Deep Government Experience
Our rich history of supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program dates back to the 1970s. Since 2003, our firm has supported the agency’s Map Modernization and Risk MAP programs. We hold numerous task orders under USACE contracts, including work for more than 20 USACE Districts.

Strength in Research
We offer testing, analysis, evaluation, and design for potable water, wastewater, stormwater, and fire suppression systems. From single reservoirs to complex composite systems that include multiple reservoirs, wells, river intakes, and transmission facilities, we’ve completed studies and investigations that enable clients to optimize their water resources.

Fish Passage Expertise
Our fishway designs have included vertical slot, pool and weir, Denil, Alaskan steeppass, and nature-like fishways. As part of our sustainable watershed management process, we work closely with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and other fish behavior experts, to maximize the effectiveness of passageways and restore and enhance aquatic habitats.
