  • Increases efficiency by connecting the existing Gold Line to Pasadena without a transfer
  • Improves passenger access and safety
  • Street improvements around each station provide a healthier walking and bicycling environment
  • Accelerated project timeframe serves as a model for future regional projects.

The Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension is a 6-mile-long, dual light rail transit (LRT) alignment that includes 1.7 miles of tunnel, offering the Eastside faster and more convenient access to multiple destinations. The line starts at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, where it connects with the Pasadena Gold Line LRT and ends at Atlantic Boulevard Station. Eight stations were included in the project scope; six are street level and two are below grade. Two park-and-ride maintenance and storage requirements will be met through a reconfiguration of the existing facilities at the Metro Gold Line Division No. 21/Midway Yard.

The ridership forecast for the Eastside Extension LRT system is 23,000 daily boarding by 2020. The new stations will serve diverse Los Angeles neighborhoods, such as the Arts District, Little Tokyo, and Boyle Heights. The extension connects the Eastside by rail to downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena, San Fernando Valley, South Bay, Long Beach, and all points in between. Metro worked with the local community since 1991 to plan and develop the details of this rail project and provide continued communication with the community through construction.
