Baltimore County Pump Stations Engineering Services

Directly north of the City of Baltimore, Baltimore County is the state’s third most populous county and features many major highways connecting to the city. The Baltimore County Department of Public Works faced the challenge of evaluating multiple pumping stations and making the necessary improvements to the aging facilities.
 
As part of an on-call contract with the county, Gannett Fleming conducted multidisciplinary evaluations of the Catonsville and Sunnybrook water pumping stations, and to the West Inverness and Willow Avenue wastewater pumping stations. The firm also performed design and construction-phase services for each of the four stations.

What We Did

Gannett Fleming worked with the county to assess the condition of several pumping stations and to recommend and implement improvements to the condition and reliability of the stations. The process started with a station facility assessment, in which conditions of the facility were evaluated, including electrical, HVAC, structural, and mechanical equipment. The recommendations, once accepted by the county, were developed into final bid documents. 

We provided construction phase services for several of the stations The improvements to the stations included installations of new pumping systems, installation and rehabilitation of storage and pneumatic tanks and treatment systems, replacement of architectural features, mechanical and electrical systems upgrades, influent and discharge main replacement, flow meter and surge relief valve installations, new emergency generators, in addition to other system replacements and upgrades.
