Outcomes
  • Design, technical oversight, and coordination of exploratory drilling and grouting
  • Treated solution features, pre-treated foundation material for future cutoff wall
  • Constructed a two-line grout curtain over a 4,200 foot length using IntelliGrout.

In 2005, a sinkhole developed on the upstream side of the Clearwater Dam, which is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Little Rock District. The USACE concluded during the Phase I contract that a more intense grouting program would be required to reduce permeability of the foundation bedrock underlying the dam that would potentially reduce the depth of the future cutoff wall.

What We Did

Gannett Fleming performed design, technical oversight, and coordination of exploratory drilling and grouting for Phase 1B of the Clearwater Dam rehabilitation. The project involved constructing a two-line grout curtain over a 4,200-foot length at Clearwater Dam using IntelliGrout. Our firm provided technical support; oversight of daily operations; quality control services; geologists to inspect drilling operations and prepare geologic logs; operation and coordination of daily grouting, water testing, and washing operations; observed and interpreted borehole images; and prepared daily pay item reports for client submission and weekly update drawings.

Key Features

  • On-site and office technical support and oversight of the daily operations
  • Inspected drilling operations and prepared geologic logs using field computers for integration with grouting operations
  • Operated and coordinated daily grouting, water testing, and washing operations through IntelliGrout.
