Building commissioning is the systematic process of testing and verifying a facility’s complex mechanical and electrical systems operation prior to the building’s use. Commissioning can help pinpoint problems and ensure that systems perform as they were intended, eliminating problems before they can begin and saving the owner time and money. Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) hired Gannett Fleming to commission two buildings with a combined square footage of 60,000.

What We Did

Gannett Fleming provided fundamental building systems commissioning services in accordance with LEED® for New Construction version 2.1 for the Select Medical Health Education Pavilion and the Early Childhood Education and Child Care Center on HACC’s main campus. The firm developed a commissioning plan and procedures for acceptance-testing of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical systems, including fire alarms and power systems, to ensure the comfort and safety of students and faculty. Testing the facility’s high-performance systems prior to occupancy adds to their sustainability and longevity, helping the college protect its investment as well as the environment.
