Outcomes
  • A final report including all findings and recommendations for upgrades
  • Opportunities to improve the reliability of the transmission corridors
  • Updated PLS models of the towers for accurate structure analysis.

In support of load capacity and resiliency measures, Con Edison hired Gannett Fleming to perform an analysis of the W64 and W79 transmission corridor towers in Westchester County, New York. The analysis helps to determine the extent and feasibility of reinforcing the towers to meet defined load criteria, as well as determine a reinforcing scheme of the structures to increase the reliability of the transmission system.

What We Did

Gannett Fleming performed both an analysis of the existing transmission line system and a visual inspection of the lattice towers as part of an Independent Transmission line Review (ITR).
Gannett Fleming analyzed each tower to determine the degree of overstress based on the load criteria established in the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and by Con Edison. The review included an analysis of the existing Power Line System Computer Aided Design and Drafting™ (PLS-CADD™) models and visual field inspections.

Key Features

  • Analysis of load criteria evaluated against the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) C2-2007 and Con Edison specifications
  • Use of PLS-CADD, a powerful overhead power line design program.
