With the U.S. breaking record highs for power use, electric utilities are concerned about the challenges of ensuring a safe and reliable network while managing a fast-shifting landscape, including the impacts of storm events, regulatory and climate change legislation, and aging infrastructure.  

Responding to these demands, Gannett Fleming’s geospatial technology division, GeoDecisions®, developed the Electric Mapping Analysis Package. ElectriMAP is a geographic information system (GIS) application developed on the industry Esri® technology platform. It provides a model of a utility’s network from which operators can maintain infrastructure, access customer information, manage assets, and integrate with outage detection, engineering analysis software, vegetation management tools, as well as other applications. This comprehensive application alleviates the time and frustration of consulting multiple systems and streamlines operations.

What We Did

We customized MJM Electric’s ElectriMAP application, enabling the electric cooperative to better maintain and analyze its transmission and distribution infrastructure. The MJM Electric’s poles, substations, and other features were aligned to high-resolution ortho imagery. Through the connectivity rules in the ElectriMAP software, features were connected, and proper flow directions were set to present a real-world model of the utility’s infrastructure.

  • Offers a single source for storing reliable asset information and mapping asset locations, eliminating paper maps, substation sketches, and a variety of other source formats
  • Enables MJM Electric to operate a more efficient maintenance schedule, which helps to avoid potential asset failure and extend the life of infrastructure 
  • Field crews can perform tasks in the field, saving time and eliminating paperwork.
