Todd D. Szymkowski, PE, PTOE, has joined Gannett Fleming’s transportation operations practice in the firm’s Madison, Wisconsin, office. Szymkowski serves as a transportation systems management and operations manager.
In this role, he is responsible for the management, research, planning and design of transportation projects, with an emphasis on traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems, freight operations, and transportation systems management and operations (TSM&O).
In his 20 year career, Szymkowski has worked with clients including the Iowa Department of Transportation, Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration, and others. He is also an accomplished author and presenter on a variety of transportation operations topics. He has been recognized with a Distinguished Service Awards from the Great Lakes Transportation Enterprise Institute, the Wisconsin Section of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and the Intelligent Transportation Society of Wisconsin.

Szymkowski holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a master of science in civil and environmental engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a registered engineer in Wisconsin and Iowa, and a professional traffic operations engineer.
An active member in professional organizations, Szymkowski is a fellow of ITE and serves as chair of the TSM&O Freight Committee and International Ethics Committee. He is also a member of the Transportation Research Board and the International Municipal Signal Association.
