Rory and Shay Ellafrits, twin brothers and Marine Corps veterans, received firsthand experience with Gannett Fleming engineers on March 7 as part of the Rotary Veterans Initiative (RVI) sponsored by the Rotary Clubs of Carlisle and Mechanicsburg North.

The goal of RVI is to mentor and link military veterans with professionals in careers of interest. The brothers are studying mechanical engineering at The Pennsylvania State University, Harrisburg.

“Hosting these military veterans at Gannett Fleming is beneficial for them and us,” said Bryan Edwards, PE, Gannett Fleming mechanical engineer and RVI visit coordinator. “As first-year students, they gained familiarization with engineering, software, and project results. We benefited as well – we were able to meet future engineers and showcase the impact of our work.”

The brothers participated in hands-on demonstrations, walk-throughs of Gannett Fleming building systems, and engineer-led discussions on renewables and energy conservation during their visit.

Shay and Rory said they found the experience with Gannett Fleming enlightening, as they obtained insight about professional success, engineering capabilities, and unique projects.

This collaboration with the Rotary Club is another example of Gannett Fleming’s commitment to community involvement and a culture of diversity and inclusion.
