Matkowski Joins Gannett Fleming as Director of Connected and Automated Vehicle Services

Laurie Matkowski has been named Gannett Fleming’s director of connected and automated vehicle services for the Transportation Operations Global Business Line.

“Laurie is nationally known for her nearly two decades of strategic transportation planning in the Philadelphia region,” said Vice President Eric Rensel. “She will partner with new and existing clients to prepare for and implement smart cities and connected and automated vehicles (CAV) advancements. She is well-versed in workforce development, successfully planning for operations, and creating diverse partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies.”

In addition to leading the firm’s CAV initiatives, Matkowski will help clients develop and deliver smart cities projects and planning, from big picture strategy to incremental improvements. She will also create and establish transportation systems management and operations (TSMO) projects and grow a team to support these initiatives.

Matkowski most recently worked for the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission where she was manager of the Office of Transportation Operations Management. In this role, she developed and directed TSMO, intelligent transportation systems (ITS), traffic incident management, and traffic signal optimization programs within the agency and for the region.

Matkowski earned her Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from Clemson University and is a graduate of the Operations AcademyTM. A supporter of the Connected Women at Gannett Fleming initiative, she was named the 2014 Woman of the Year by the WTS Philadelphia chapter, and is a current board member. She continues to serve as an inaugural board member for the National Operations Center of Excellence. A longtime board member of ITS Pennsylvania, she is currently serving as the immediate past president, is a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers TSMO Executive Council, and volunteers for the Future City Competition.
