Ben R. Margerum, CEA, QCP, a senior mechanical designer in the firm’s corporate headquarters in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, received the Gannett Fleming 2014 President’s Innovation Award. The award honors employees who think outside the box to create original solutions, new approaches, and innovations that provide extra value for their clients.
Margerum was recognized for his innovative design work on an existing roadway tunnel ventilation system. His creative design concepts and associated modeling of potential fire development and smoke propagation on the roadway were central to advancing the redesign of a vital roadway tunnel with severe space and geometry limitations. Margerum’s solution is recognized for providing great value to the client by improving tunnel fire safety conditions at a reduced cost, while providing constructability and long-term maintenance advantages.
Margerum holds a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. He is registered as a Certified Energy Auditor by the Association of Energy Engineers and as a Qualified Commissioning Process Provider by the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
