John R. Kenny, PE, DBIA, a senior vice president and director of Gannett Fleming based in the Pittsburgh, Pa., office, was awarded the 2013 Outstanding Alumni Service Award on Sept. 29, 2013, during a Carnegie Mellon University Alumni Awards luncheon.
A 1982 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, Kenny was recognized for his work with the Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) Alumni Advisory Council. Since 2008, he has helped forge a relationship between Gannett Fleming and the university. He has been an active champion of CEE, serving as a resource for students seeking internships and employment opportunities.
David Dzombak, the department head of Environmental Engineering for Carnegie Mellon University, presented Kenny with the award at the Alumni Awards luncheon in Pittsburgh. The award recognizes CEE alumni who have made sustained contributions to the engineering profession.
Kenny, who has been employed with the firm for 30 years, directs the firm’s Intelligent Transportation Systems and Alternative Delivery practice leadership teams, and chairs the firm’s acquisition committee. He holds a master of science in civil engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
