Gannett Fleming's Rensel Named to Forty Under 40 List

Eric E. Rensel, vice president at Gannett Fleming, was named to Central Penn Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 list. The program recognizes the region's most accomplished young business leaders for their dedication to business growth, professional excellence, and community service.

Based at the company’s headquarters in Camp Hill, Rensel provides expertise in traffic management center development and staffing, and helps transportation agencies mitigate congestion by employing innovative roadway operational efficiencies. Rensel leads the firm’s connected and autonomous vehicle (CV/AV) working group, which informs clients on how CV/AV will impact the transportation industry, and also works to advance Gannett Fleming’s smart cities capabilities.

“Eric has built his career at Gannett Fleming, and he is consistently encouraging and enabling transformative change,” said Matthew Schiemer, PE, vice president of transportation operations. “His expertise in smart cities, for example, keeps our firm at the forefront of technology and data. But for him, it goes beyond that - he sees smart communities as a way to use data to connect vital services and improve people’s lives.”

Rensel has worked in more than 42 states and 17 countries, with clients ranging from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to the Qatar Public Works Authority. An accomplished national presenter and published author, Rensel has written for Traffic Technology International, American Society of Highway Engineers’ The SCANNER, and Military Engineer magazine, as well as two transportation management manuals for the FHWA.

Rensel is a past president of the Institute of Transportation Engineers Mid-Atlantic Section and currently chairs the organization’s Transportation Systems Management & Operations Council. In addition, he is an active member of numerous professional organizations, including the Transportation Research Board Freeway Operations Committee and the National Operations Center of Excellence Technical Advisory Committee. Rensel holds a bachelor of science in structural design and construction engineering technology from The Pennsylvania State University.
