Gannett Fleming Wins Three Awards for PennDOT Projects

The American Society of Highway Engineers (ASHE) and the Associated Pennsylvania Constructors (APC) recently presented awards to Gannett Fleming for three separate Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) projects.

APC presented the 2018 Community Connection Award for the Interstate 70, Section T20 Reconstruction and Widening project. Gannett Fleming worked with PennDOT to design the first-of-its-kind diverging diamond interchange (DDI) for Pennsylvania. The purpose of the DDI is to make the I-70 connection with Route 19 safer and more efficient. The $64 million project included rebuilding the interstate and interchange to improve the degrading highway, increase safety, and reduce congestion throughout the I-70 corridor.

ASHE Delaware Valley presented the 2017 Project of the Year Award for the PA Route 926 Over Brandywine Creek Bridge Replacement project. As part of a project team, Gannett Fleming provided PennDOT with a final design for an $8.8 million bridge replacement across Brandywine Creek. The design solved a crucial flooding challenge and allowed for greater emergency service access throughout the area.

ASHE Mid-Allegheny presented the 2017 Outstanding Highway Engineering Award for the SR 119, Section 454 Home Railroad Bridge Replacement project. PennDOT contracted Gannett Fleming as an engineering consultant for SR 119 improvements. The innovative design included realigning more than 2,800 feet of road and replacing two structurally deficient bridges. The $9 million completed project eliminated a reverse horizontal curvature and provided a safer, maintenance-friendly roadway with improved sight distance.
