Global infrastructure and engineering firm Gannett Fleming recently won an $80 million design-build contract with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) for the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Enhanced Stations Initiative.

As part of the initiative, LIRR is modernizing 17 of its rail stations to improve customer experience, perception, comfort, safety, and convenience. Gannett Fleming is the lead designer, providing design and construction oversight to rehabilitate and modernize eight stations on Long Island. Those stations are:

  • East Hampton
  • Merrick
  • Bellmore
  • Farmingdale
  • Brentwood
  • Deer Park
  • Stony Brook
  • Syosset.

“This contract award is very important to Gannett Fleming as it expands our station portfolio, showcases our expertise in the design and enhancement of commuter rail stations, and involves the company in another of the MTA’s FASTRACK infrastructure improvements,” said Joe Tulumello, AIA, Gannett Fleming vice president and Northeast Region Facilities Business Line leader.

Gannett Fleming has successfully led other MTA FASTRACK infrastructure improvements including preliminary engineering for LIRR’s Third Track Expansion.
