Gannett Fleming won two prestigious honors at the recent 2019 WTS Pittsburgh Annual Recognition Awards event. The firm received the WTS Employer of the Year Award and Eric Veydt, PE, PEng, ENV SP, Pittsburgh Transportation Practice manager and vice president, earned the Honorable Ray LaHood Award.
“I’m proud that our team won an individual as well as a collective award from WTS Pittsburgh this year,” said Esther McGinnis, MidAtlantic Region director and executive vice president. “Through the firm’s unwavering commitment to diversity and inclusion, via employee resource groups like Connected Women at Gannett Fleming™, The Future Generations of Gannett Fleming, and Military Veterans at Gannett Fleming, as well as the personal dedication of leaders like Eric, we are fulfilling our core mission and providing a better value to our clients because of our diversity of perspectives.”
The WTS Employer of the Year Award goes to the firm that demonstrates a focus on career development and continuing education for women, the advancement of female leaders, and mentoring the next generation of transportation professionals.
WTS International created the Honorable Ray LaHood Award to honor men who have played an integral role in attracting, retaining, and advancing women in the transportation profession. Project Engineer Christie Cohan, PE, NCTI, ENV SP, nominated Veydt for the award, citing examples of his mentorship and empowerment.
“There are few things more important in the progression of one’s career than knowing that management both believes in you and has your back,” Cohan said. “Eric’s advocacy placed me in my first role as a project manager, and while he ‘kicked me out of the nest,’ he made it clear he would be there when I needed to call. And he always is.”
