Gannett Fleming Names Matthews Newest Vice President

(South Plainfield, N.J.) Gannett Fleming recently named Robert B. Matthews, PE, ENV SP, a vice president with the firm. He also is a Highway Department manager/project manager, responsible for the management, design, planning, and coordination of transportation projects. 

Matthews has served the firm for more than 20 years. During that time he has provided quality assurance and control, project management, and technical advisory services for transportation clients, including the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), New Jersey Transit, and others. He is the design manager for the $160 million New Jersey Turnpike Interchange 14A Improvements in Bayonne and Jersey City, New Jersey. Matthews also is the project manager for the $45 million Garden State Parkway Milepost 38 to 41 Widening Project and civil task leader for the NJ Transit’s $600 million Raritan River Bridge Replacement Project. 

“Robert is a valued member of Gannett Fleming’s Transportation Leadership Team and shows excellent leadership skills in his numerous management roles,” said James Laurita, PE, senior vice president, and director of the Northeast Region. “I know that he will continue that leadership in this new role.” 

Matthews is a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers and has served the board of the North Central New Jersey Section as director, president, and program chairman. He also was a director of the New Jersey Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. The North Jersey Branch of the ASCE named Matthews their Young Engineer of the Year in 2008.
