A groundbreaking ceremony for the Cumberland County Law Enforcement Memorial, for which Gannett Fleming donated design services, took place on May 14, 2013. The ceremony was attended by 150 guests, including law enforcement officers, local political figures, and the family members of those the memorial honors.

The Site Development Group in the firm’s corporate headquarters in Harrisburg, Pa., provided conceptual design alternatives and prepared a final concept for the memorial based on presentations and feedback from memorial foundation board members. They also will provide as-needed support during construction. Construction is set to begin this summer, with a ribbon cutting scheduled for May 2014.

Eleven officers have died in the line of duty while serving in Pennsylvania’s Cumberland County, dating back to 1893. The memorial, funded solely by public donations, will seek to tell the stories of each officer through granite markers, information plaques, and video screens.
