The American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts (ACEC/MA) presented a Silver Award to the Gannett Fleming and Plaza Construction Design-Build team for the Springfield Railcar Assembly Facility Project during its 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards on March 14.
Gannett Fleming served as the lead engineer and architect for the Springfield, Massachusetts, facility. Our team managed construction administration, commissioning, design, and planning for the two-year, $95-million global investment project.
The completion of this North American operations hub for the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation led to the creation of nearly 150 permanent new jobs. The facility allows the on-time delivery of railcars assembled for the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority, contains an open floor plan with large-scale assembly equipment, and boasts dual-rated direct current equipment to provide a variety of voltages for multiple railcar clients.
Sustainable features appear throughout the facility, including insulated metal-paneled walls that create a thermally efficient building, adjustable energy-saving lighting, and on-site stormwater treatment. View the full details of this project on Gannett Fleming’s website.
