Christopher R. Atwood, AIA, CSI, CCS, has joined Gannett Fleming Architects, Inc. as director of specifications. Based in the firm’s corporate headquarters in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Atwood brings nearly 40 years of experience and is a registered architect in Pennsylvania and Virginia. He works with the firm’s facilities staff to standardize production specifications for all types of facilities the firm provides services for, including education, commercial/industrial, municipal, military, and biopharma.

In this role, Atwood is responsible for selecting a firm-wide specification platform, providing specification writing training, implementing and maintaining office master specifications, and ensuring consistent project specification format across the company. With the goal of fostering continued collaboration, Atwood’s contributions will allow for increased workload sharing, consistency, and efficiency.

“The timing was right for Chris to join our team as director of specifications,” said George Campanella, a senior vice president and director of the firm’s Facilities Business Line. “This key hire is part of our continuing efforts to raise the bar on quality for our clients. By having the right people in the right places, we can foster continued growth.”

Atwood is an instructor for an architectural technology class held by the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) and Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC). He also is a board member of the Central Pennsylvania Chapter of CSI, and the current program committee chair. A graduate of the University of Virginia, Atwood holds a bachelor of science in architecture.

Gannett Fleming Architects, Inc. also welcomes Robert P. Phelabaum, Assoc. AIA, to the firm as an architectural intern. He generates design and construction drawings, develops project and presentation graphics, prepares cost estimates, writes specifications, performs submittal reviews, and provides construction administration. Having completed a co-op work study in higher education architecture, Phelabaum is able to provide value to the team right away.

“It is important as a company that we find and nurture new talent,” said Charles Beauduy, AIA, president of Gannett Fleming Architects, Inc. “Robert brings a well-rounded view of the industry to the position, and is working in all of the firm’s architecture markets to continue his on-the-job education.”

Phelabaum holds a bachelor of architecture from Drexel University and an associate in arts of architecture from HACC. He is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects.

Gannett Fleming’s architectural team has designed a variety of facilities across the country, including multiple projects at Fort Indiantown Gap in Pennsylvania, maintenance facilities for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, and a commuter rail maintenance facility for the Denver Regional Transportation District FasTracks Commuter Rail System, to name a few.

Gannett Fleming Architects, Inc. is the architectural affiliate company of Gannett Fleming, Inc., and provides services nationwide.
