John A. Buchheit, PE, PMI-RMP, DBIA, has been named Corporate Quality Officer (CQO) of Gannett Fleming, Inc. He is also a senior vice president and the firm’s Corporate Risk Officer (CRO).
As CQO, Buchheit is responsible for making certain the firm's ISO 9001:2008-compliant quality system is effectively implemented and maintained. He oversees the internal quality process audit program and works directly with top management regarding overall performance and improvement of the organization's quality management system and corporate quality processes. He also leads project lessons learned, root cause analyses, corrective action planning, and provides guidance related to program- and project-specific quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) activities.
In his role as CRO, Buchheit oversees risk consultation on select corporate strategic initiatives and oversight of project risk. He conducts risk assessments and modeling, develops risk management plans, and serves as the interface between project risks and the firm's legal and insurance departments.
Recognized as a leading expert in the design and construction of transportation infrastructure, Buchheit’s assignments have spanned complex highway and bridge projects, including alternative project delivery. He has shared his expertise through articles and presentations for respected industry publications and organizations.
With nearly 30 years of service to Gannett Fleming, Buchheit is a registered professional engineer in Florida, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. He holds a bachelor of science in civil engineering from West Virginia University. Buchheit is a member of the Design-Build Institute of America and American Road and Transportation Builders Association, and sits on the Risk Management Committee of the American Consulting Engineering Companies.
