Noted emergency management professional Sonny Fong joined Gannett Fleming to help deliver innovative security and safety solutions to the firm’s utility, government, and private sector clients in California. A senior security and safety advisor based out of our San Francisco, California, office, Fong provides consulting services on emergency preparedness, security risk management, and physical protection system development.
A 38-year veteran of the California Department of Water Resources, Fong was instrumental in conducting emergency repairs to the California Aqueduct, which ultimately mitigated impacts to the state’s manufacturing and agricultural industries and prevented potential widespread flood damage to critical infrastructure. Interacting closely with private, public, and government agencies, he supervised construction projects and emergency management programs.
“Sonny has played a central role in creating and implementing the National Incident Management System, a guide to keeping our critical infrastructure safe,” said McEwan van der Mandele, CPP, a Gannett Fleming vice president and the Security and Safety Services Team Director. “He is committed to sharing his broad industry knowledge with public safety, law enforcement, and homeland security agencies to strengthen our nation’s security.”
Highly trained in emergency management techniques, Fong completed courses by the California Department of Water Resources, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the National Fire Academy.
