Barrett Named Engineering Society of Baltimore's Engineer of the Year

W. Arthur Barrett, II, PE has been selected by the Engineering Society of Baltimore as the Engineer of the Year for 2015. Barrett is a senior vice president and senior transportation project manager for Gannett Fleming. An industry veteran with more than 35 years of experience, Barrett has been an integral part of the Gannett Fleming team for 21 years.

His work with the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), Maryland Department of General Services, Maryland State Highway Administration and other clients includes the management and direction of the transportation and structural sections of the firm's MidAtlantic Region. Barrett has recently completed several high-profile projects, including the MTA’s Purple Line Corridor Study and Kirk Bus Facility Modernization project in Baltimore.

The Engineering Society of Baltimore's Engineer of the Year award honors an engineer previously recognized by a member of their Associates Society Council. Barrett’s dedication to the advancement of the profession was recognized by the Maryland Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) when he was named their 2015 Civil Engineer of the Year. It is due to this honor that he was nominated for the Engineering Society of Baltimore award.

Barrett is a graduate of Clarkson University, holding a bachelor of science in civil and environmental engineering. He is registered as a professional engineer in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey and the District of Columbia. In addition to being a member of the Maryland Section of ASCE, he is a former president. Barrett currently serves as the president of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Maryland and served as the 2014 president of the Engineering Society of Baltimore.
