Art Barrett, PE, Gannett Fleming senior vice president, MidAtlantic Transportation Business Line leader has assumed the role of vice chair of the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), the largest association of engineering companies.
As one of seven vice chairs, he will serve on the ACEC Executive Committee and will coordinate national programs with the ACEC organizations in Delaware, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.
“It is an honor to be recognized by my peers and to serve in this prominent position,” said Barrett. “I look forward to representing the engineering community as we find ways to create innovative solutions to improve our communities while addressing our industry’s business concerns.”
With more than 35 years of industry experience, Barrett is paving the way in the transportation industry. Two of his most notable projects include the nation’s first P3 light rail project and the O’Donnell Street Viaduct, both of which received ACEC/MD recognition awards.
Barrett earned a Bachelor of Science in civil and environmental engineering from Clarkson University. He is a registered professional engineer in Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and Washington D.C. He is an active member of ACEC/MD, serving as president in 2016 and recognized as the ACEC/MD 2015 Civil Engineer of the Year.
