Gannett Fleming has named Amr Aly, PE, LEED® AP, to the role of the structures practice leader within the growing Facilities Business Line.
“Amr demonstrates a passion for innovation in this expanding market and is a proven leader, qualities that align with his new role overseeing the Structures Practice Leadership Team (PLT),” said Paul Nowicki, PE, president and chief operating officer. “In support of our growing, multidisciplinary Facilities Business Line, he will lead the PLT in leveraging innovative technology, offering technical guidance, providing employees with tools for professional development, driving quality across operations, and elevating the firm’s thought leadership.”
With more than 25 years of industry experience, Aly has played a key role in many large-scale, award-winning projects. He served as the lead structural engineer and structural project manager for the Springfield Railcar Assembly Facility Design-Build Project. He was the lead structural engineer for the design of the new Central Services Facility, a first-of-its-kind building that provides a centralized warehouse to store and distribute 4 million pieces of equipment and materials for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. He also served as the lead structural engineer for the Delaware River Port Authority’s, PATCO Control Center relocation.
Aly serves on the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York’s Structural Codes Committee. He is the committee chair for the performance-based design section of the New York City Department of Buildings’ Structural Technical Committee and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. Aly also teaches a master’s level course titled “Advanced Steel Design” at Columbia University’s Department of Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. He earned a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Cairo University, a Master of Science in civil engineering from The Cooper Union, and a Master of Philosophy in civil engineering and engineering mechanics from Columbia University.
